Hello everyone,

We invite you to take part in the PredAction project, supervised by three members of the MARBEC laboratory (University of Montpellier - IRD - CNRS - IFREMER): Adrien CHEVALLIER (researcher), Eliot RUIZ (PhD student), and Johann MOURIER (lecturer-researcher).

To achieve this, we are seeking to collect photos and/or videos of predation interactions between different marine predator species (jacks, octopuses, moray eels, groupers, etc.) during your freediving or scuba diving sessions. A predation interaction is characterized by multiple predators hunting together for one or more prey (whether visible or not).

If you believe you have filmed or photographed such behavior, or if you witness any of these scenes in the next two months (until March 10), please send your footage to the following directory:
https://e.pcloud.com/#page=puplink&code=QXR7Zh01iDA6QYj5kkrolfN2LQh9yG4iV

As the study is not limited to Reunion Island, please send us all your illustrations of interactions from tropical regions. Name your files as follows (items in parentheses are optional and/or context-dependent):
dd.mm.yyyy-(longitude-latitude-)site name(-island name)-country.
For example: 10.01.2025-hermitage-ile de la reunion-france.mp4 or 12.01.2025-27.202-33.926-hurghada-egypte.jpg.

The platform will also ask for your name to submit the video. However, we kindly request that you provide your email address instead if you wish to receive the study’s results.

Your videos will then be analyzed by a group of five undergraduate students in marine ecology (University of Montpellier - Polytech Montpellier). We will send you a detailed report of this fascinating study’s results as a priority!

We would also be very grateful if you could share this project with your members, reef enthusiasts, and diving friends: the more videos we receive, the richer and more accurate our analyses will be!
Feel free to contact us for further information.

The entire PrédAction team thanks you in advance for your valuable collaboration!

Best regards,
Austin BERNARD, Lea JAUZE, and the entire PredAction team
