Spotted a number of these siphonophores In the middle of a planktonic bloom, composed mainly of numerous pelagia noctiluca, pteropods, a limited number of sapphirinas and a few ctenophora.

@Laurent Fey It is possible. WoRMS has documented of both Bijuga and Cara in the Mediterranean but has marked Cara as inaccurate for the area https://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=135496

I believe it is safe to say that it belongs to the Nanomia genus with Bijuga being a possible candidate for species.

Thank you for the CSIRO pdf Gaël Modrak! I think that the Nanomia bijuga description fits perfectly. Even the ovoid and red pigmented apical float is accurate, though this is not perfecly clear in my shots due to the flash intensity.

Best wishes for the holidays, good health and good company for the year to come!

Sorry, doesn't match in terms of location, probably another close specie... Maybe that link could help... https://publications.csiro.au/rpr/download?pid=csi...
